I grew up in sneakers but never really considered them a stylish addition to an ensemble. Instead, I associated them with my mandatory middle school uniform or playing outdoors. Because I grew up on a ranch, cute sneakers would soon become “junky sneakers” that I could dirty up without a care in the world. When the white sneaker + dress trend blew up, I was equally confused and resistant. For starters, I didn’t have the best of luck keeping white shoes their original color, so why invest in expensive kicks? I also was hesitant to pair athletic shoes with a skirt or dress, as I didn’t want it to look like I got dressed in the dark or decided to jog to work. So naturally, I surprised myself when I recently gave into the girly-meets-sporty trend and wore my (much cheaper) Adidas sneakers alongside a skirt for a weekday look. Instead of giving off Working Girl vibes, the look feels stylish and modern with minimal effort. Plus, your feet will thank you!
